Mitsubishi F8TJ0371 3729 ECU repair – Jungheinrich TGV425 forklift with Kubota engine, ACORE service Poland

What is the Mitsubishi F8TJ0371 Controller?

The Mitsubishi F8TJ0371 3729 — also known by STILL part number EG544-11000 WG2503-L-STIL-2, catalogue number 5401 360 1000and serial EG54459052 — is the engine management ECU (Electronic Control Unit) responsible for controlling the Kubota diesel or LPG engine installed in the Jungheinrich TGV425 counterbalance forklift. The same module is used in STILL EG5 and EG6 forklifts.

The ECU manages fuel injection timing and quantity, idle speed regulation, engine protection against overheating, on-board OBD diagnostics, and Check Engine signalling. Failure of this module results in complete immobilisation of the forklift or serious Kubota engine operating issues.

Symptoms of a Faulty Mitsubishi F8TJ0371 ECU

Forklift won't start – no ECU initialization signal
Kubota engine dies 2–5 seconds after start
Check Engine light on constantly
Rough idle, engine misfires
Black or blue smoke from exhaust
No power – forklift won't pull under full throttle
Engine shuts down spontaneously during operation
Fuel consumption increased 30–50%
Fault codes P0201–P0204 (injectors), P0335 (CKP sensor)
Fault P0105 – MAP (boost pressure) sensor
No OBD communication – ECU doesn't respond to scan tool
Blown ECU fuse (10A / 15A in the fuse box)

Root Causes of ECU Failures

Electrolytic capacitors – the most common failure

In F8TJ0371 controllers operating in an industrial environment (vibration, high temperature in the Kubota engine bay – up to 95°C), standard 85°C series electrolytic capacitors gradually lose capacitance or bulge. This manifests as unstable Mitsubishi MEC processor operation and ECU initialisation errors.

IGBT transistor failures in the injector driver section

Kubota injectors have a solenoid coil of approximately 12 Ω / 1A. Short circuits in the coil or transient overvoltages (e.g. when jump-starting from a flat battery) cause thermal damage to the IGBT transistors driving the injectors. Symptom: fault codes P0201–P0204 and black exhaust smoke on starting.

Connector corrosion and PCB damage

The 56-pin Molex MX150 connector is susceptible to electrochemical corrosion, especially in forklifts working in humid warehouses and cold stores. Oxidised contacts cause interruptions in sensor signals — MAP, CKP, ECT — resulting in incorrect ECU operation even without chip failure.

Repair Process at ACORE – Step by Step

1

Preliminary diagnosis (free)

Reading OBD fault codes (ISO 9141-2 / KWP2000), checking 12V supply voltages, ground circuits, input signals from sensors: CKP, MAP, TPS, IAT, ECT.

2

PCB disassembly and visual inspection

Checking electrolytic capacitors for bulging, testing IGBT transistors in the power section, measuring injector coil resistance, inspecting PCB traces for burns.

3

Electrical diagnosis

ESR measurement of capacitors, IGBT testing on bench, reading EEPROM memory (VIN codes, calibrations), oscilloscope analysis of injection phase signals.

4

Component regeneration

Replacement of 85°C electrolytic capacitors with 105°C industrial series, IGBT replacement in injector section, reflash of Mitsubishi MEC firmware EEPROM, ultrasonic PCB cleaning.

5

Bench test

Sensor signal simulation, OBD communication test, injection sequence check, temperature range verification 0–85°C.

6

Vehicle test + warranty

Installation in forklift, dynamic test, live data check of Kubota parameters, issue of service protocol. 12-month warranty.

FAQ – Mitsubishi F8TJ0371 ECU Repair

How do I tell if the ECU is faulty or if it's a mechanical Kubota engine issue?

Key test: connect an OBD scanner and check if the ECU responds to communication. No response or code U0100 – Lost Communication with ECM/PCM points to an ECU failure. If the ECU responds and logs P0335 (CKP), P0105 (MAP) codes – the problem may be in the sensors, not the ECU itself.

Does the ECU need recalibration after repair?

Yes – after replacement or regeneration, the VIN and Kubota engine calibration parameters (injection timing, idle speed, fuel map) must be reprogrammed using Judit 4 or Kubota Diagmaster. For postal repairs, the customer receives a fitting guide and remote support data.

What if the ECU is completely burnt and beyond repair?

In rare cases (lightning strike, direct 12V short to ground) the Mitsubishi MEC microprocessor is irreversibly damaged. In such cases we supply a refurbished exchange unit from our stock or a new OEM Mitsubishi module. We always provide a priced option.
